It was during invasion and domination of Mughal then British that fires of liberation were stoked through\u00a0<\/b>Sakti<\/i><\/b>–<\/b>Puja<\/i><\/b>. Bengal was entirely under brutal British clutches that led to famines and mass starvation deaths. Bankim Chandra Chatterjee authored\u00a0Ananda Matha<\/i>\u00a0\u00a0that ignited sparks of\u00a0<\/b>Sannyasi<\/i><\/b>\u00a0 rebellion. Those rebels of freedom were dubbed \u2018Thugs\u2019 and \u2018Dacoits\u2019 by British occupiers of Bengal and their\u00a0<\/b>Kali Mandira<\/i><\/b>-s are still known as \u2018Dakatiya Kali\u2019 or \u2018Thagadia Kali\u2019 by the rural populace.\u00a0<\/b>Sannyasi<\/i><\/b>\u00a0 rebellion witnessed emergence of\u00a0<\/b>Ma Kali<\/i><\/b>\u00a0 as the divine inspiration and unifying\u00a0<\/b>Sakti<\/i><\/b>\u00a0 for all rebels including Muslims. They usually undertook their operations under cover of darkness during\u00a0<\/b>Krsna<\/i><\/b>–<\/b>Paksa<\/i><\/b>\u00a0 after worshipping Her in their\u00a0<\/b>Mandira<\/i><\/b>-s. Muslim rebels too, followed the tradition as a mark of amalgamation of\u00a0<\/b>Sannyasi<\/i><\/b>\u00a0 and Fakir traditions. Majnu Shah of Birbhum in Bengal was active in this approach of resolving Hindu Muslim differences. British occupiers distorted the entire narrative, dubbed them \u2018Thugs\u2019 and worshippers of\u00a0<\/b>Kali<\/i><\/b>, an evil religion that motivated them to waylay and strangulate travellers. British even went to the extent of sending decapitated \u2018Thug\u2019 heads to Edinburgh where so-called British doctors used to conduct \u2018Phrenology\u2019 studies and conclude those \u2018Thug\u2019 skulls as \u201crepresentative examples of normal Hindoo type\u201d of the \u201capathetic, weak and lazy Hindoo\u201d obsessed with \u201cnatural inclination for the work of death\u201d. All these used to be widely reported in British newspapers. Distorian (prejudiced historian who distorts) Kim Wagner of the University Of Edinburgh \u2018discovered\u2019 that\u00a0<\/b>Bhagavat Purana<\/i><\/b>\u00a0 established\u00a0Ma Kali<\/i>\u00a0\u00a0patronising a \u2018band of thieves\u2019 as most of the \u2018Thugs\u2019 captured, tortured and executed by those British brutes, referred to\u00a0<\/b>Devi Bhavani<\/i><\/b>\u00a0 as their deity, also\u00a0<\/b>Kula<\/i><\/b>–<\/b>Devi<\/i><\/b>\u00a0 of Marathas and Rajputs.\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n

East India Company had to encounter first episode of the War Of Freedom in 1857 and adoration of\u00a0Devi<\/i>\u00a0Bhavani<\/i>\u00a0\/\u00a0Kali<\/i>\u00a0 exerted a significant role in triggering the uprising in addition to interconnecting multiple communities. Dacoity, in spite of being a criminal offence, came out to be regarded as a rebellion against oppressive British regime, State neglect of natural calamities, plunder and devastation of natural resources. The demon being held by the hair is labeled `Desa<\/i>–Droha<\/i>\u2019 (Disloyalty to Country) … the hand which holds his hair is labeled `Desa<\/i>–Seva<\/i>\u2019 (Service of Country).\u201d Thus She is fierce and benign manifests both simultaneously even as battle prepared essence of\u00a0Bharata Ma<\/i>.\u00a0Abject poverty, lack of governance, heaps of miseries compelled people to resort to armed revolt against brutal regime of the day.\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n
