Cetana<\/i>\u00a0 i.e. Absolute Consciousness and\u00a0Prakriti<\/i>\u00a0 i.e. Absolute Nature, together constitute entire existence. It is\u00a0Prakriti\u00a0<\/i>\u00a0that migrates into grosser modifications i.e.\u00a0Vikrti\u00a0<\/i>\u00a0to raise\u00a0Mul-Prakrti<\/i>,\u00a0Mahatattva<\/i>,\u00a0Ahamkara<\/i>\u00a0 and\u00a0Tanmatra. Tanmatra<\/i>\u00a0 further evolves into\u00a0Sabda-Tanmatra<\/i>\u00a0( for perception of sound ),\u00a0Sparsa-Tanmatra<\/i>\u00a0( for perception of touch ),\u00a0Rupa-Tanmatra<\/i>\u00a0( for perception of light ),\u00a0Rasa-Tanmatra<\/i>\u00a0( for perception of taste ) and\u00a0Gandha<\/i>–Tanmatra<\/i>\u00a0( for perception of odour ) which cause creation of five elemental\u00a0Mahabhuta Tattva<\/i>-s i.e.\u00a0Akasa<\/i>,\u00a0Vayu<\/i>,\u00a0Agni<\/i>,\u00a0Jala<\/i>\u00a0and\u00a0Prthvi<\/i>. Five\u00a0Mahabhuta<\/i>-s are graded based on their respective subtlety with subtlest one being\u00a0Akasa\u00a0<\/i>\u00a0and the grossest one,\u00a0Prithvi<\/i>. Five\u00a0Mahabhuta<\/i>-s transform themselves in innumerable ways to cause creation of everything that we know, perceive and cognise in the entire universe. This mystical transformation is also accompanied by innumerable permutations and combinations among themselves to allow creation of innumerable objects. So\u00a0Mahabhuta Tattva<\/i>-s are mutable i.e. transformable yet\u00a0Sanatana<\/i>\u00a0 i.e. eternal.\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n

Serious challenge of striking right multi-faceted equilibrium springs forth when a\u00a0Jivatma<\/i>\u00a0 is born in this jungle of innumerable creations constituted of five\u00a0Mahabhuta<\/i>-s. Challenge because every\u00a0Jivatma<\/i>\u00a0 is expected to deport itself in a certain way amidst intricate jungle of\u00a0Mahabhuta<\/i>-s and every\u00a0Jivatma<\/i>\u00a0 is a very complex conglomerate of five\u00a0Mahabhuta<\/i>-s and\u00a0Cetana<\/i>\u00a0 too. Challenge is further compounded by the reality that innumerable\u00a0Jivatma<\/i>-s are born vying among themselves to gain a firm foot-hold in this cosmic jungle that we call the world. Complexity of the challenge is further aggravated when human beings are born, endowed with intellectual capabilities as well as venalities like aspiration to become Absolute Creator of the universe themselves !!<\/b><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n

To ensure all\u00a0Jivatma<\/i>-s including human beings interact rationally among themselves as well as vis. a vis. creations of\u00a0Mahabhuta Tattva<\/i>-s and avoid even a semblance of cosmic disruption, Eternal Providence created a divine code of conduct renowned as\u00a0Dharma<\/i>, a catalogue of attributes that every\u00a0Jivatma<\/i>, particularly human beings must possess.\u00a0Dharma<\/i>\u00a0 is an institution in itself that has been defined by\u00a0Maharsi Manu<\/i>\u00a0 in his legendary wisdom of\u00a0Manusmriti<\/i>\u00a0 with absolute degree of precision –<\/b><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n

Dhritiha Ksama Damoasteyam Saucamindriyanigrahaha<\/i>\u00a0 I<\/b><\/p>\n

Dhirvidya Satyamakrodho Dasakam Dharmalaksanam<\/i>\u00a0\u00a0II VI \/ 62 II<\/b><\/p>\n

Dhriti<\/i>,\u00a0Ksama<\/i>,\u00a0Dama<\/i>,\u00a0Asteya<\/i>,\u00a0Sauca<\/i>,\u00a0Indriya<\/i>–Nigraha<\/i>,\u00a0Dhiha<\/i>,\u00a0Vidya<\/i>,\u00a0Satya<\/i>\u00a0 and\u00a0Akrodha<\/i>\u00a0 are ten elements that constitute\u00a0Dharma<\/i>.<\/b><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n

Dhriti\u00a0<\/i>\u00a0is patience towards all;\u00a0Ksama<\/i>\u00a0 is forgiveness;\u00a0Dama<\/i>\u00a0 is the virtue of restraining oneself from indulgence with evil deeds;\u00a0Asteya<\/i>\u00a0 is renouncing thievery and unrighteous acquisition;\u00a0Sauca<\/i>\u00a0 is internal and external consecration through purification;\u00a0Indriya<\/i>–Nigraha<\/i>\u00a0 is restraining senses from gratification through introversion;\u00a0Dhiha<\/i>\u00a0 is abstaining from addictive intoxicants;\u00a0Vidya<\/i>\u00a0 is striving for\u00a0Viveka<\/i>–Jnana<\/i>;\u00a0Satya<\/i>\u00a0 is truthfulness and finally\u00a0Akrodha<\/i>, renouncing anger towards all and everyone. All these are fundamentals of\u00a0Dharma<\/i>\u00a0 that members of all four\u00a0Asrama<\/i>-s and\u00a0Varna<\/i>-s are mandated to pursue religiously.\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n

Now we behold,\u00a0Dharma<\/i>\u00a0 is\u00a0Sanatana<\/i>\u00a0 i.e. eternal and immutable.\u00a0Dharma<\/i>\u00a0 is absolutely incomparable and unique, endowed with the same mystical subtlety that\u00a0Mahabhuta Tattva<\/i>-s happen to be.\u00a0Dharma\u00a0<\/i>\u00a0is ubiquitous too i.e. omni-present and omni-existent.\u00a0Dharma<\/i>\u00a0 is essentially subtlest\u00a0Jada\u00a0<\/i>\u00a0yet when enacted, transforms itself into a glorious manifest of\u00a0Cetana<\/i>\u00a0 like\u00a0Akasa<\/i>\u00a0 and\u00a0Prana<\/i>. No other language in the world has an exactly precise counterpart of the term \u2018Dharma<\/i>\u2019 hence the term is \u2018un-translatable\u2019 being an extra-ordinary institution. Whenever and wherever\u00a0Jivatma<\/i>\u00a0 is there,\u00a0Dharma<\/i>\u00a0 has to be there inevitably. Interestingly, it is only human beings who necessarily require to be taught and trained pursuit of\u00a0Dharma<\/i>\u00a0 as intellectual faculty they are endowed with, is a permanent rebel. Animals are natural and excellent followers of their\u00a0Dharma<\/i>\u00a0 in spite of not being trained or taught any lesson on\u00a0Dharma<\/i>\u00a0 at all. Indeed, when a man trains an animal to behave in a particular way, it is in reality\u00a0Adharma<\/i>\u00a0 i.e. complete absence of\u00a0Dharma<\/i>\u00a0 that is taught to them by human trainers !!! As an\u00a0Adhyatmika<\/i>\u00a0 enthusiast, I am inclined to declare\u00a0Dharma<\/i>\u00a0 as the sixth\u00a0Mahabhuta<\/i>\u00a0 after\u00a0Akasa<\/i>,\u00a0Vayu<\/i>,\u00a0Agni<\/i>,\u00a0Jala<\/i>\u00a0 and\u00a0Prithvi<\/i>.\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n

If\u00a0Dharma<\/i>\u00a0 is\u00a0Atma<\/i>, religion is it\u2019s embodiment. If\u00a0Dharma<\/i>\u00a0 is one of the means to attain the Supreme Absolute, religion is one of the means to practise\u00a0Dharma<\/i>.\u00a0Jivatma<\/i>\u00a0 is the sole purpose and objective of\u00a0Dharma<\/i>, which in turn is the sole purpose and objective of religion while religion can never be the purpose of\u00a0Dharma<\/i>. While\u00a0Dharma<\/i>\u00a0 is subservient to\u00a0Jivatma<\/i>\u00a0 in spite of the ruling that looms over head of every\u00a0Jivatma<\/i>, \u201cBe you ever so high,\u00a0Dharma<\/i>\u00a0 is above you\u201d, religion is subservient to\u00a0Dharma<\/i>\u00a0 directly and to\u00a0Jivatma<\/i>, indirectly. Just as\u00a0Dharma<\/i>\u00a0 has been defined in\u00a0Manusmriti\u00a0<\/i>\u00a0with absolute precision, religion too has been defined with absolute precision by\u00a0Maharsi Patanjali<\/i>. Just as there is ONLY one\u00a0Dharma<\/i>\u00a0 in the world i.e.\u00a0Sanatana Dharma<\/i>, there is ONLY ONE religion too i.e.\u00a0Sanatana Pantha<\/i>\u00a0 in the world. And this\u00a0Sanatana Pantha<\/i>\u00a0 is\u00a0Astangayoga<\/i>\u00a0 of\u00a0Maharsi Patanjali<\/i>\u00a0–\u00a0\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n

Yamaniyamasanapranayampratyaharadharanadhyanasamadhyoasta Vangani<\/i><\/b>\u00a0\u00a0I (II\/29)<\/b><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n

Yama<\/i>\u00a0(Restraint),\u00a0Niyama<\/i>\u00a0(Observance),\u00a0Asana<\/i>\u00a0(Posture),\u00a0Pranayama<\/i>\u00a0(Regulation of Breath)<\/b><\/p>\n

Pratyahara<\/i>\u00a0(Withholding of Senses),\u00a0Dharana<\/i>\u00a0(Fixity of Mind),\u00a0Dhyana<\/i>\u00a0(Meditation) and\u00a0Samadhi\u00a0<\/i>(Perfect Concentration) are the eight means of attaining\u00a0Yoga<\/i>.<\/b><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n

First five elements of the\u00a0Yoga<\/i>\u00a0 are practised externally i.e. at gross, physical level while\u00a0Dharana<\/i>,\u00a0Dhyana\u00a0\u00a0<\/i>and\u00a0Samadhi<\/i>, internally at the subtle level of consciousness.\u00a0 When entire consciousness is transfixed on\u00a0Dhyeya<\/i>\u00a0 i.e. object of contemplation, it is known as the state of\u00a0Dharana<\/i>.\u00a0Dhyana<\/i>\u00a0\u00a0is the state of being completely assimilated into the\u00a0Dhyeya<\/i>\u00a0\u00a0with respect to consciousness excluding consciousness pertaining to any other entity. When cognition of the object as\u00a0Dhyeya<\/i>\u00a0\u00a0is completely dissolved and entire consciousness is transfixed on the conceptual existence of\u00a0Dhyeya<\/i>, it is the state of\u00a0Samadhi<\/i>.\u00a0Dharana<\/i>,\u00a0Dhyana\u00a0<\/i>\u00a0and\u00a0Samadhi\u00a0<\/i>\u00a0are together known as\u00a0Samyama<\/i>. By resolving\u00a0Samyama<\/i>\u00a0 on various entities, one is rendered capable of performing any miracle, even those that would appear impossible miracles otherwise.<\/b><\/b><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n

This eight-fold endeavour intertwined with some elements of\u00a0Sanatana Dharma<\/i>, to attain ultimate liberation is complete and perfect in itself. It has taken care of all the possible repercussions and ramifications that one may encounter during it’s pursuit. The real marvel of\u00a0Astangayoga<\/i>\u00a0\u00a0lies in it’s complete and absolute objectivity, based on unedited and unadulterated cosmic realities. I venture to emphasise again, there is absolutely no trace of any subjective element whatsoever, in it’s entire philosophy.\u00a0So much so that even a Muslim-fanatic may dub it as Allah\u00a0Yoga<\/i>\u00a0 or a diehard harvester of faith, Christian-Benedict as Christ \/ Jesus\u00a0Yoga<\/i>\u00a0!!!\u00a0If someone’s take happens to be that some Sufi fellow with the name Jalaluddin Rumi attained salvation by traversing the path of Islam, my rejoinder would be that even while practising five Namaz a day, Rumi could not have ignored elements of\u00a0Astangayoga<\/i>\u00a0 i.e.\u00a0Yama<\/i>,\u00a0Niyama<\/i>…etc. He had to practise all these, even in the name of Islam !!! Ultimate salvation is altogether a different proposition which no other so-called religion can attain. Sole, existing religion of\u00a0Astangayoga<\/i>\u00a0 is a means to the highest state of consciousness.\u00a0Even so-called most intelligent man of 20th century, Albert Einstein practised\u00a0Astangayoga<\/i>\u00a0 to open up innumerable locks in his brain whose keys were irretrievably lost into his ocean of ignorance. As entanglement with the gross world is multi-pronged and multifarious, equally capable and compatible\u00a0Adhyatmika<\/i>\u00a0 regime is essential to combat the entanglement at the same level of strive. Mysticism of\u00a0Astangayoga<\/i>\u00a0\u00a0lies in it’s absolute neutrality towards all faiths because mere pursuit of faith adds to entanglement with the gross.\u00a0Astangayoga<\/i>\u00a0\u00a0is amply competent to dissolve the drag caused by pursuit of faiths. Owing to it’s absolute objectivity and pristine purity,\u00a0Astangayoga<\/i>\u00a0\u00a0is the\u00a0Param Satya Yoga<\/i>\u00a0\u00a0as well as\u00a0Param Brahma Yoga<\/i>, too.<\/b><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n

A mountaineer intending to arrive at Mount Everest may come from any corner of the world yet he shall have to report at the Base-Camp before embarking on the heroism of summiteering.\u00a0Cosmic journey from the base-camp to the summit constitutes\u00a0Sanatana Pantha<\/i>\u00a0 of\u00a0Astangayoga<\/i>\u00a0 wherein the base-camp is ‘Yama<\/i>‘ while the summit is ‘Samadhi<\/i>‘. Journeys from various corners of the world to the base-camp are indeed, life-styles i.e. Islam, Christianity, Judaism, so on and so forth. Indeed, other than the\u00a0Sanatana Pantha<\/i>\u00a0 of\u00a0Astangayoga<\/i>\u00a0 of\u00a0Maharsi Patanjali<\/i>\u00a0 being the only religion, Buddhism \/ Jainism \/ Islam \/ Christianity \/ Judaism \/ Bahaism etc. are mere life-styles.\u00a0Hinduism<\/i>\u00a0 is a complex entity of\u00a0Sanatana Dharma<\/i>,\u00a0Sanatana Pantha<\/i>\u00a0 as well as life-styles. If a\u00a0Hindu<\/i>\u00a0 conducts a\u00a0Vedic Yajna<\/i>\u00a0 with or without motives, at best it is a life-style which may assure\u00a0Adhyatmika\u00a0<\/i>\u00a0advancement \/ refinement of any order. Ardent pursuit of even life-style of\u00a0Hinduism<\/i>\u00a0 cannot attain salvation, leave alone Islam or Christianity.\u00a0Rituals at best, discipline one\u2019s life-style devoid of any\u00a0Adhyatmika<\/i>\u00a0 advancement. All observances, austerities etc. constitute\u00a0Hindu<\/i>\u00a0 way of life alone. Also, they do not at all assure attainment of\u00a0Moksa\u00a0<\/i>\u00a0i.e. ultimate liberation.<\/b><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n

Wisdom lies in being resolute about observance of\u00a0Sanatana Dharma<\/i>\u00a0 and\u00a0Sanatana Pantha<\/i>. There is absolutely no wisdom in being resolute or fanatical about constituents of various life-styles. It is a human tragedy of monumental dimensions that majority of human beings are fanatical about life-styles in the name of Hinduism \/ Buddhism \/ Jainism \/ Christianity \/ Islam etc. which are not even religion at all what to speak of\u00a0Dharma<\/i>\u00a0 of any kind while being absolutely ignorant about cardinality of\u00a0Sanatana Dharma<\/i>\u00a0 and\u00a0Sanatana Pantha<\/i>.\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n
