Glimpses of select definitions are herein as under \u2013<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u0928\u093f\u0927\u092f\u0947\u00a0<\/strong><strong>\u0938\u0930\u094d\u0935\u0935\u093f\u0926\u094d\u092f\u093e\u0928\u093e\u0902\u00a0<\/strong><strong>\u092d\u093f\u0937\u091c\u0947\u00a0<\/strong><strong>\u092d\u0935\u0930\u094b\u0917\u093f\u0923\u093e\u092e\u094d\u00a0<\/strong><strong>\u0964 \u0917\u0941\u0930\u0935\u0947\u00a0<\/strong><strong>\u0938\u0930\u094d\u0935\u0932\u094b\u0915\u093e\u0928\u093e\u0902\u00a0<\/strong><strong>\u0926\u0915\u094d\u0937\u093f\u0923\u093e\u092e\u0942\u0930\u094d\u0924\u092f\u0947\u00a0<\/strong><strong>\u0928\u092e\u0903\u00a0<\/strong><strong>\u0965<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Salutations to\u00a0<em>Daksinamurty<\/em>\u00a0the\u00a0<em>Guru<\/em>\u00a0who is preceptor of all in the world, who cures all diseases and reservoir of entire knowledge.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>All\u00a0<em>Vedic<\/em>,\u00a0<em>Tantric<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<em>Agama<\/em>-s\u00a0emanate from\u00a0<em>Bhagvana Daksinamurty<\/em>\u00a0manifesting in embodied\u00a0<em>Guru<\/em>-s often to impart knowledge and enlightenment. That\u2019s how\u00a0<em>Adi Samkaracarya\u00a0<\/em>is revered as\u00a0<em>Adi Guru<\/em>\u00a0i.e.\u00a0<em>Guru<\/em>\u00a0of all\u00a0<em>Guru<\/em>-s\u00a0<em>Siva<\/em>\u00a0or\u00a0<em>Mahadeva<\/em>\u00a0who incarnated as\u00a0<em>Guru Daksinamurty<\/em>\u00a0in his\u00a0<em>Daksinamurty Stotram<\/em>\u00a0who precepted only\u00a0<em>Rsi<\/em>-s through His\u00a0<em>Maun<\/em>\u00a0i.e. silence.\u00a0<em>Sri Ramana Maharsi<\/em>\u00a0too adopted precepting through\u00a0<em>Maun<\/em>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Accurate pronunciation with right accent is the foundation of\u00a0<em>Vedic<\/em>\u00a0learning as the chanting must engender specific waves and modulations for\u00a0<em>Vedic Mantra<\/em>-s to be effective. It can be assimilated only through a\u00a0<em>Guru<\/em>\u00a0well-versed in\u00a0<em>Vedic Mantra<\/em>-s.\u00a0<em>Guru<\/em>-s are thus highly revered and indispensable Indeed, every sacred ritual begins with adorations unto\u00a0<em>Guru\u00a0<\/em>followed Similarly\u00a0<em>Arjuna\u00a0<\/em>humbled King\u00a0<em>Drupada<\/em>\u00a0in battle as a measure of\u00a0<em>Daksina<\/em>\u00a0unto his\u00a0<em>Guru<\/em>\u00a0<em>Dronacarya<\/em>. Even\u00a0<em>Bhagvadgita<\/em>\u00a0too, was expounded in the same\u00a0<em>Guru<\/em>\u00a0tradition unto\u00a0<em>Arjuna<\/em>.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u0917\u0941\u0930\u0941\u0915\u0941\u0932\u092e\u094d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>GURUKULA<\/em>\u00a0is hermitage of\u00a0<em>Guru<\/em>\u00a0where pupils undergo\u00a0<em>Upanayana Samskara<\/em>, serve the\u00a0<em>Guru<\/em>\u00a0and learn simultaneously. As an important feature of\u00a0<em>Bharatiya Siksana Vidhana<\/em>, it was essential for every pupil to stay with\u00a0<em>Guru<\/em>\u00a0in\u00a0<em>Gurukula<\/em>\u00a0all the time for all round self-development at all planes of body, mind, intellect and Soul.\u00a0<em>Gurukula<\/em>\u00a0is the oldest educational institution in the world existing even today. Young learners stay as family members in a sylvan ambiance away from cacophonic turmoil of towns in resonating solitude from where emanated\u00a0<em>Guru<\/em>\u2013<em>Sisya<\/em>\u00a0tradition, an ancient one and unique to\u00a0<em>Sanatana Dharma<\/em>\u00a0alone wherein\u00a0<em>Sisya<\/em>\u00a0belongs to the\u00a0<em>Guru<\/em>\u00a0and not to the institution. This tradition had been the cause of country-wide narration and dissemination of the wisdom of\u00a0<em>Veda<\/em>-s,\u00a0<em>Purana<\/em>-s,\u00a0<em>Mahabharata<\/em>\u00a0etc. over five millennia by generations of disciples.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Responsibility of providing education vested with\u00a0<em>Brhamana<\/em>-s of every society and they used to be looked after by Kings for all their essentials as education was provided by them free for all. Since libraries and books did not exist then, teaching emphasised on memory to continue throughout pupils life.\u00a0<em>Sisya<\/em>-s i.e. pupils enrolled into\u00a0<em>Gurukula<\/em>-s were also known as\u00a0<\/strong><strong>\u0905\u0928\u094d\u0924\u0947\u0935\u093e\u0938\u093f\u0928\u094d i.e.\u00a0<em>Antevasin<\/em>\u00a0too. After completion of learning,\u00a0<em>Samavartana<\/em>\u00a0ceremony used to be solemnised. After the ritual of\u00a0<em>Snana<\/em>\u00a0i.e. bathing,\u00a0<em>Sisya<\/em>\u00a0used to be declared\u00a0<em>Snataka<\/em>\u00a0i.e. graduate in contemporary parlance.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>There have been scores of\u00a0<em>Guru<\/em>\u2013<em>Sisya<\/em>\u00a0examples from\u00a0<em>Vedic<\/em>\u00a0era viz.\u00a0<em>Rsi<\/em>\u00a0<em>Astavakra<\/em>\u00a0being\u00a0<em>Guru<\/em>\u00a0of\u00a0<em>Maharaja Janaka<\/em>,\u00a0<em>Uddalaka<\/em>\u00a0was\u00a0<em>Guru<\/em>\u00a0of his son\u00a0<em>Svetaketu<\/em>,\u00a0<em>Rsi Yajnavalkya<\/em>\u00a0of his wife\u00a0<em>Maitreyi<\/em>,\u00a0<em>Yamaraja<\/em>\u00a0of\u00a0<em>Naciketa<\/em>,\u00a0<em>Canakya<\/em>\u2013<em>Candragupta Maurya<\/em>,\u00a0<em>Gaudapada<\/em>\u2013<em>Adi Samkara<\/em>\u00a0etc. Concurrently, another amazingly unique tradition of\u00a0<em>Vidya<\/em>\u2013<em>Parampara<\/em>\u00a0too, came into being wherein lineage of erudite scholars spanning even upto twelve generations contributed to society. Centres such as\u00a0<em>Taxila<\/em>,\u00a0<em>Kasi<\/em>,\u00a0<em>Mithila<\/em>,\u00a0<em>Ayodhya<\/em>,\u00a0<em>Kanchi<\/em>,\u00a0<em>Ujjaini\u00a0<\/em>etc. were thriving with\u00a0<em>Vidya<\/em>\u2013<em>Parampara<\/em>\u00a0while in west, only one each Galileo, Newton Marie Curie, Einstein existed without lineage.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Mission Of\u00a0<em>Gurukula<\/em>\u00a0Education is underscored as under \u2013<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Asato Ma Sadgamayah<\/em>\u00a0I\u00a0<em>Tamaso Ma Jyotirgamayah<\/em>\u00a0I\u00a0<em>Mrtyurma Amrtam Gamayah<\/em>\u00a0II<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>May we move from untruth to truth, vanities to virtues.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>May we move from the darkness of ignorance and delusion to the effulgence of discriminative wisdom.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>May we move from agonies of mortality to the bliss of immortality.<br \/>\nThat is the real purpose of education.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u0917\u0941\u0930\u0941\u0915\u0941\u0932\u0932\u0915\u094d\u0937\u094d\u092f\u093e\u0923\u093f<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Goals of\u00a0<em>Gurukula Guru<\/em>\u2013<em>Sisya<\/em>\u00a0tradition had been a holistic mode of education in Bharata from ancient era.\u00a0<em>Gurukula<\/em>-s may be located in jungles, village temples or entirely learning centres like Kasi to Kanchi, it has been intrinsic to\u00a0<em>Sanatana<\/em>\u00a0cultural heritage.\u00a0<em>Gurukula<\/em>-s not only protected cultural heritage but also revitalised it for centuries.\u00a0<\/strong><strong>\u0905\u0917\u094d\u0930\u0939\u093e\u0930\u092e\u094d i.e.\u00a0<em>Agrahara<\/em>,\u00a0<\/strong><strong>\u0918\u091f\u093f\u0915\u093e i.e.\u00a0<em>Ghatika\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0<\/strong><strong>\u0924\u094b\u0932\u0903 i.e.\u00a0<em>Tol<\/em>\u00a0are some of villages dedicated to\u00a0<em>Brhamana<\/em>\u00a0scholars only.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u0928\u093f\u0930\u094d\u0935\u0939\u0923\u092e\u094d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Sustainment of\u00a0<em>Gurukula<\/em>-s used to be supported and sustained by natives of villages in proximity even though ultimate responsibility was vested in Kings. For conducting\u00a0<em>Yajna<\/em>-s, donations used to be solicited from all. Depending upon quantum of endowments received,\u00a0<em>Gurukula<\/em>-s,\u00a0<em>Mutts<\/em>\u00a0etc. provided free education, clothes, medicines etc.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>As we observed earlier, there is absolutely no parallel to the kind of educational system that the Bharatiya genius had developed. From individual teachers to\u00a0<em>Gurukula<\/em>-s\u00a0to\u00a0<em>Pathasala<\/em>-s\u00a0to\u00a0<em>Parisad<\/em>-s\u00a0to breathtaking universities like\u00a0<em>Taksasila<\/em>,\u00a0<em>Magadha<\/em>,\u00a0<em>Odantapuri<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<em>Vikramasila<\/em>, Bharata remained preeminent treasury and the knowledge-magnet of the world for centuries. Every literary man of ancient Bharata was a living library. They survived all disasters and calamities, pregrenated throughout the nation, preserved and propagated ancient wisdom and cultural heritage.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u0909\u092a\u0928\u092f\u0928\u0938\u0902\u0938\u094d\u0915\u093e\u0930\u0903<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Upanayana Samskara\u00a0<\/em>is a unique ritual in every\u00a0<em>Gurukula<\/em>\u00a0with which pupils are initiated into\u00a0<em>Brhamacarya Asrama<\/em>\u00a0before being ordained as\u00a0<em>Dvija<\/em>-s i.e. twice born. Pupils who opted out of it on their own volition, chose to serve society instead of pursuing other three occupations of\u00a0<em>Brhamana<\/em>,\u00a0<em>Ksatriya<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<em>Vaisya<\/em>, were classified as\u00a0<em>Sudra<\/em>-s.\u00a0<em>Varna<\/em>\u00a0of\u00a0<em>Brhamana\u00a0<\/em>was assigned to pupils endowed with entirely\u00a0<em>Sattvika<\/em>,\u00a0<em>Ksatriya<\/em>\u00a0with entirely\u00a0<em>Rajasika\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0<em>Vaisya<\/em>\u00a0with assortment of\u00a0<em>Rajasika<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<em>Tamasika<\/em>\u00a0characteristics while\u00a0<em>Sudra<\/em>-s with\u00a0<em>Tamasika<\/em>\u00a0only.\u00a0<em>Vedic<\/em>\u00a0learning and performing of\u00a0<em>Yajna<\/em>-s was allowed only to\u00a0<em>Dvija<\/em>-s.\u00a0<em>Upanayana<\/em>\u00a0was equally valid for female pupils too and their marriage was regarded as equivalent to the\u00a0<em>Samskara<\/em>. It is only appropriate that we recall some accomplishments of the extra-ordinary uninterrupted\u00a0<em>Guru<\/em>\u2013<em>Shishya<\/em>\u00a0<em>Parampara<\/em>\u00a0that has no parallel anywhere in the world. Most appropriate way to honour and adore\u00a0<em>Maharsi Veda Vyasa<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<em>Guru<\/em>\u2013<em>Parampara<\/em>\u00a0is to emulate him by living a life dedicated to a truly noble goal absolutely selflessly. He classified, reorganised and edited entire corpus of\u00a0<em>Veda<\/em>-s with the noble sense of\u00a0<em>Lokasamgraha<\/em>\u00a0i.e. for the benefit of the world. Owing to his relentless efforts we are able to identify them as\u00a0<em>Rg<\/em>-,\u00a0<em>Yajur<\/em>-,\u00a0<em>Sama<\/em>\u2013 and\u00a0<em>Atharva<\/em>\u2013<em>Veda<\/em>.
