Bhagavad Purana, the 12th\u00a0 Chapter (Skandha) has the following description of Kaliyug (in which we are\u00a0 living) which seemingly has a striking resemblance to the prevailing\u00a0 conditions in India: And this was written two thousand years ago! Truly, our ancestors were men of great vision, who could see two thousand years into the future.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Bhagavad Purana- 12th Chapter. ” As the Age turns to\u00a0 evil (that is, when Kaliyug begins) every virtue decays and vanishes : honesty,\u00a0 forbearance, kindness, memory and strength disappear.
\nWealth replaces a noble\u00a0 birth, character and conduct. Might becomes right, for might alone determines\u00a0 dharma and justice.
\nTrade and fraudulent practice become\u00a0 synonymous.
\nThe law will favour only\u00a0 the rich, and will have no regard for justice. He that can curse and swear best\u00a0 will be considered thefinest scholar.
\nPoverty will be sufficient cause\u00a0 to establish guilt in the eyes of the law, while wealth and ostentation will be\u00a0 indices of character.
\nRudeness and brashness of speech will be equal to\u00a0 dharma.
\nHe that maintains his\u00a0 family by the foulest means will be considered respectable. Dharma will be\u00a0 observed only for exhibition.
\nWhoever is strong and daring will become\u00a0 the king, and will rule like greedy lustful bandits, with plunder and rapine of\u00a0 their own subjects, who will often flee such tyranny and seek refuge in forests\u00a0 and mountains.
\nExhausted by cruel taxes,\u00a0 deprived of rains in lands from which true dharma has fled, the people will\u00a0 subsist on wild vegetation, roots,flesh, fruits, flowers, etc.
\nKings will\u00a0 become mere robbers, and men, driven by despair and poverty, will become\u00a0 thieves, liars and murderers.
\nMen will become bestial and perverse– miserly, ruthless, greedy and vindictive for the flimsiest reasons.
\nArrogance, hypocrisy,\u00a0 deception, dishonesty, sloth, somnolence,cruelty of every kind, delusion, terror\u00a0 and wretchedness will rule.
\nBrigands and robbers will rule the land.\u00a0 Kings will all be tyrants.<\/div>\n
People will espouse\u00a0 gluttony, lasciviousness and venality of every kind.
\nThe vilest men will\u00a0 become the foremost traders, making cheating and thievery the common practice of\u00a0 the marketplace. Even when they are not threatened with any danger, men will\u00a0 take to forbidden means to earn their livelihood, and pride themselves on\u00a0 it.
\nRelationships between\u00a0 parents and children, brothers, friends and relations will not be\u00a0 valued.
\nSeated upon the sacred thrones of great and holy gurus of yore,\u00a0 men\u00a0 that are masters only of\u00a0 vice will expound dharma to the gullible populace.
\nDepleted by dreadful\u00a0 taxes, tormented by drought, starved, owning none of the bare necessities of\u00a0 life …homes, clothes, food and drink, a\u00a0 bed, a bath, etc. men will\u00a0 seem more like bhutas and pisachas.
\nOver small matters, members of the\u00a0 same family will fight their own blood relations, even unto death, forgetting\u00a0 all ties of affection.
\nNo one will bother to\u00a0 look after their old parents any more, they will only live for themselves, and\u00a0 will neglect their own children. “<\/div>\n
