Yajna<\/i><\/b>\u00a0 literally means sacrifice, devotion, worship and offerings referring to prescribed rituals performed in front of sacred fire with Mantra<\/i>-s offering oblations and libations. Yajna<\/i>, literally means \u2018to extend graciously\u2019, constitutes fundamental premise of Vedic<\/i>\u00a0 wisdom having far-reaching proceeds encompassing physical, psychological, social, spiritual and ecological dimensions, purifying all. Indeed, Yajna<\/i>\u00a0 is the abiding principle that sustains entire creation, unifying power that links creatures with the Creator, microcosm with macrocosm. Yajna<\/i> symbolizes the very purpose \/ mission of human life that is benevolence and service unto fellow beings. Yajna<\/i> \u00a0rituals are known as Karma-Kanda<\/i> \u00a0in Veda<\/i>-s other than Jnana-Kanda<\/i>, also known as Upanisad<\/i>. Mimansa<\/i> \u00a0school of Sanatana<\/i> \u00a0philosophy too, primarily focuses on rituals of Yajna<\/i>\u00a0 extensively. Yajna<\/i> \u00a0continues to play pivotal role alongwith Agamic<\/i>\u00a0 rituals in Hindu<\/i>\u00a0 way of life such as Upanayana<\/i>, Pani<\/i>–Grahana<\/i>, Antyesti<\/i>\u00a0 etc. Five elements constitute essence of Vedic <\/i>\u00a0wisdom pursuit of which causes attainment of Moksa<\/i>\u00a0 i.e. ultimate emancipation \u2013 Yajna<\/i>, Dana<\/i>, Tapa<\/i>, Karma<\/i>\u00a0 and Svadhyaya<\/i>. Yajna<\/i>\u00a0 may be solemnized to purify atmosphere, Dana <\/i>\u00a0dissolves attachment, Tapa <\/i>\u00a0leads to realization of aspirations, pursuit of Niskama Karma<\/i>\u00a0 causes self-purification and Svadhyaya<\/i>\u00a0 begets ultimate emancipation.
\n<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

Yajna<\/i><\/b>\u00a0 was ordained by Prajapati Brahma<\/i>\u00a0 to be the foremost means to achieve whatever one wishes to during long-drawn process of cosmic creation. He declared Yajna<\/i>\u00a0 to be like Kamadhenu<\/i>, to be pursued with unmitigated devotion invoking all faculties of one\u2019s cognition and action. No other language has a perfect equivalent of the word of Yajna<\/i>\u00a0 as it carries within itself intense spiritual import and cosmic phenomena. It is generally understood as \u2018sacrifice\u2019 or offering of oblations into sacred fire in a Vedi<\/i>\u00a0 i.e. a platform raised for the purpose. Vedic\u00a0 <\/i>interpretation of Yajna<\/i>\u00a0 varies considerably. Root of the word Yajna<\/i>\u00a0 is Yaja<\/i>\u00a0 signifying congregation of four constituents \u2013
\n<\/b><\/p>\n

Yajna<\/i><\/b>\u00a0 has been described in detail in various scriptures. Among these are Veda<\/i>-s, Upanisad<\/i>-s, Bhagavad Gita<\/i>, Ramayana<\/i>, Srimad Bhagavatama<\/i> \u00a0and other Purana<\/i>-s. Yajura Veda<\/i>, regarded as Veda<\/i>\u00a0 of Yajna<\/i>-s, qualifies it as Sthatmaya Karmana\u00a0<\/i> implying \u201cYajna<\/i>\u00a0 is the most auspicious deed done for profound benefits for masses.\u201d Creation of the universe is purported to be a proceed of Yajna <\/i>\u00a0as expounded in Purusasukta <\/i>\u00a0of Rgveda<\/i>\u00a0 and Srimadbhagvadgita<\/i> (VIII \/ 3), \u201c\u2026by confining Himself in Prakrti<\/i>, He solemsied Yajna<\/i>\u00a0 so that universe may come into existence.\u201d During Vedic<\/i>\u00a0 era, Yajna<\/i>\u00a0 used to be enacted to consolidate co-existence, harmony and partaking with celestial deities. Yajna<\/i>\u00a0 is regarded as the very centre of universe, \u201c Yajnaha Bhuvanasya Nabhihi<\/i>\u201d as well as denoted as Nadabrahma<\/i>, \u201cYajnena Vacahpadaviyamayana<\/i>\u201d.
\n<\/b><\/p>\n

Upanisad<\/i><\/b>-s deal with the significance of Yajna<\/i> \u00a0in various contexts. Kathopanisad<\/i> \u00a0reveals Yajna<\/i>\u00a0 that enables an aspirant to experience heavenly bliss, highest mission of human life. Even miracles can be accomplished through prescribed Yajna<\/i>-s.
\n<\/b><\/p>\n

Srimadbhagavad Gita<\/i><\/b>\u00a0 expounds Yajna<\/i>\u00a0 as the cosmic law of cause and effect in action. All actions excluding Yajna<\/i>-s, cause bondage and Yajna<\/i>\u00a0 alone liberates from that. As enshrined in the wisdom of Gita<\/i>, Yajna<\/i>\u00a0 is one of the Vibhuti<\/i>-s of Param Brahma<\/i>\u00a0 if solemnized in the spirit of sacrifice selflessly.
\n<\/b><\/p>\n

Mahabharata<\/i><\/b>\u00a0 is replete with instances to establish, Yajna<\/i>\u00a0 was an essential errand for monarchs and emperors. In Santi Parva<\/i>, numerous instances of Asvamedha Yajna<\/i>\u00a0 being solemnised have been described. Dusyanta<\/i>\u00a0 completed 100 Asvamedha Yajna<\/i>-s, Bhagiratha<\/i>\u00a0 performed several more while Yudhishthira\u00a0<\/i> too conducted that after being crowned as Cakravarty Samrata<\/i>.
\n<\/b><\/p>\n

Ramayana<\/i><\/b>\u00a0 and Ramacaritamanas<\/i>\u00a0 depicted King Dasaratha<\/i> \u00a0performing Putresti Yajna<\/i>\u00a0 counselled by Maharsi Vasistha<\/i>. He was later blessed with four sons with the eldest being Sri Rama<\/i>.
\n<\/b><\/p>\n

Ravana<\/i><\/b> \u00a0was a great scholar who accumulated power, wealth and prosperity through Yajna<\/i>-s. Demons were always engaged in desecrating Yajna<\/i>-s being solemnised by sages. Meghanada<\/i>\u00a0 would have remained invincible had not Hanumana<\/i>\u00a0 desecrated and disrupted his Tantra Yajna<\/i>. Sri Rama<\/i>\u00a0 too, organised Rajasuya Yajna<\/i>\u00a0 after He was crowned as the King.
\n<\/b><\/p>\n

Eighteen Mahapurana<\/i>-s too, inspire all to perform Yajna<\/i>-s. In Kurma Purana<\/i>, Bali<\/i> worshipped Visnu<\/i>\u00a0 through Yajna<\/i>; in Narada Purana<\/i>, Asvamedha Yajna<\/i>\u00a0 is performed by King Bahu\u00a0<\/i> while Bhavisya Purana\u00a0<\/i> mentions Rsi Cyavana\u00a0<\/i> being propitiated by Asvini<\/i> Kumara<\/i>-s through Yajna<\/i>. Subsequently in Purana<\/i>-s, every selfless Karma<\/i>\u00a0 of piety dedicated to the deprived, was declared Yajna<\/i>.
\n<\/b><\/p>\n

Srimad Bhagavatama\u00a0<\/i><\/b> describes entire creation coming into existence through Yajna<\/i>. King Ambarisa<\/i>\u00a0 performed several Asvamedha Yajna<\/i>-s to attain celestial beauty and splendour. However, Amabrisa\u00a0<\/i> became absolutely bereft of desires ultimately confirming, Yajna\u00a0<\/i> ultimately purifies entire inner being.
\n<\/b><\/p>\n

In ancient Bharata<\/i>, Yajna<\/i>\u00a0 was an integral errand of everyday life. No householder accepted food without appeasing Agni\u00a0<\/i> or other deities. Purana<\/i>-s\u00a0 too, extolled glory of Yajna<\/i>.
\n<\/b><\/p>\n

Yajna\u00a0 <\/i><\/b>is the collective way to repay to nature that bestows upon us unrestricted abundance of all kinds with a sense of gratitude. Niskama Yajna<\/i>\u00a0 i.e. selfless \/ unattached Yajna<\/i>\u00a0 belongs to the highest order and it\u2019s proceeds go all the way to restore cosmic equilibrium wherever and whenever disrupted. It involves offerings of specified organic substances as oblation into sacred Agni<\/i>\u00a0 accompanied by recitation of Mantra<\/i>\u00a0 and incessant devotion. Rhythmic recitation of Mantra<\/i>-s causes specific Spandana<\/i>\u00a0 into atmosphere to engender aspired proceeds. Sakama Yajna<\/i>\u00a0 is solemnised with a specific desire in mind as Samkalpa<\/i>. However, Yajna<\/i>\u00a0 is not merely restricted to offering of oblations into Havana<\/i>–Kunda<\/i>\u00a0 i.e. fire receptacle. It is a multifarious deed undertaken collectively. Broadly speaking, Nitya <\/i>\u00a0and Naimittika<\/i>\u00a0 are the two types of Yajna<\/i>-s out of which Nitya<\/i>\u00a0 is conducted daily while the other one, on specific occasions only. When Soma <\/i>\u00a0is offered as oblation into Yajna<\/i>–Agni<\/i>, it brings about tremendous purifying \/ recuperative effect on atmosphere.
\n<\/b><\/p>\n

Agnihotra<\/i><\/b>\u00a0 is a Nitya<\/i>–Yajna\u00a0 <\/i>solemnized at dawn and dusk, two important circadian biorhythms of Prakrti <\/i>\u00a0and simplest form of Yajna<\/i>.
\n<\/b><\/p>\n

Paka Yajna<\/i><\/b>\u00a0 wherein food is offered as oblation, is a daily ritual for householders; Havi<\/i> Yajna<\/i>\u00a0 involves offering of non-food oblation into the sacred fire as sacrifice; Brahma<\/i> Yajna\u00a0<\/i> entails dedication of body, mind, emotions and wealth to Param Brahmatma<\/i>; Deva Yajna\u00a0<\/i> involves offerings to various Deva<\/i>-s like Siva<\/i>, Indra<\/i>, Varuna<\/i>, Sakti<\/i>; Pitri<\/i> Yajna\u00a0 calls for obeisance to be extended unto ancestors; Nri Yajna<\/i>\u00a0 is extending services to humanity and Bhuta Yajna\u00a0<\/i> is about appeasement of species of lower orders.
\n<\/b><\/p>\n

Gomedha Yajna<\/i><\/b>\u00a0 \u201cGow<\/i>\u201d is Gacchati Yo<\/i>, Yaya Va<\/i>\u00a0 i.e. that what moves or by what other things move implying \u00a0cow \/ domestic animals capable of pulling ploughs, moving earth or soil. Medha<\/i>\u00a0 means Asrugrahane Dhatupatha<\/i> Kawvadigan<\/i>\u00a0 i.e. to beget quickly. In contemporary context, even a tractor may be called Gow<\/i> !! Gomedha Yajna<\/i>\u00a0 improves agriculture and animal husbandry and Gomedha<\/i>\u00a0 encompasses entire spectrum of agriculture and husbandry activities including research, cross-breeding to improve genetic stock etc.
\n<\/b><\/p>\n

Silpa Yajna<\/i><\/b>\u00a0 is conducted for betterment of industries under the category of Silpa<\/i>. Vedic<\/i>\u00a0 word Visvadeva<\/i>\u00a0 solemnizing various Yajna<\/i>-s means various Silpa<\/i>\u00a0 specialists in different disciplines of technology extending their expertise.
\n<\/b><\/p>\n

\u00a0Asvamedha Yajna\u00a0 Asva<\/i><\/b>\u00a0 means horse, symbol of power and horse-power in contemporary context. These are undertaken to raise man-power for wars and calamities. Undisputed sovereign monarchs were qualified to conduct an Asvamedha<\/i> Yajna<\/i>\u00a0 spanning two years. Royal horse symbolising sovereignty of the King, was sent to all kingdoms. Those who bowed to the sovereignty allowed the horse to pass through. Capturing the horse amounted to challenging sovereignty that led to fierce battles. If the horse returned unscathed, sovereignty of the monarch was established.
\n<\/b><\/p>\n

Rajasuya Yajna<\/i><\/b>\u00a0 was an integral constituent of the political and administrative system to establish as to who was entitled to govern a state. It was performed at various stages of governance to evaluate state policies and activities, complaints entertained and remedial measures undertaken. The Yajna<\/i>\u00a0 ensured close interactions between ruler and ruled.
\n<\/b><\/p>\n

Vajapeya Yajna<\/i><\/b> \u00a0It was undertaken with the specific objective of preserving harmony within the state. It was essentially a conclave of erudite scholars, sages and spiritual mendicants to exchange views and perceptions on various contemporary issues leading to policy formulation and implementation.
\n<\/b><\/p>\n

Viswajita Yajna<\/i><\/b> \u00a0The Yajna<\/i> \u00a0was persued with the objective of unifying entire humanity into one single international community through love and compassion.
\n<\/b><\/p>\n

Eco-equilibrium is the cardinality of healthy, prosperous living which Yajna<\/i>\u00a0 seeks to consolidate and promote. Entire Yajna<\/i>\u00a0 consisting of Mantra<\/i> \u00a0recitation, oblation into sacred fire etc. purify ambient environment significantly.<\/b><\/p>\n
