It was well before the Army took over in Pakistan and 1965 war which General Ayub Khan started to deflect the ire of student agitation against him . Kashmir was always there but till 1965 but it never spoiled normal neighborly relations including trade and free movement of people across the borders . All these restrictions have harmed Pakistan more as is evident from high inflation in the current regime .
Army derives its legitimacy to rule Pakistan and its unusual perks from the well orchestrated and perceived threat from India . But it is good to remember times when we were not enemies like now and hope for their return .
