Departure of Didi was the best thing that could happen to Bengal and credit must go to BJP/RSS strategy and intense field work at grass root level .

Like Manmohan’s comment about                     ‘ Minorities have the first right on national resources’  , Mamta too went over board in appeasing muslim voters . Her continuation of open support to illegal Bangladeshis ( started in CPM Rule ) , Rohingyas in spite of security threat was a very anti national act . She even obstructed BSF . Her giving Imams salary in spite of court ban was the beginning and shifting of Durga idol visarjan’  to facilitate muharram in 2017  on  1st October  was the last straw in declaring hindus as second class citizens . This permeated to thana level and hindus finally  become the second class citizens in all respect and all walks of life. They were blamed in every communal riot or killing and rarely got police protection.  Yet she kept winning elections due to fear amongst hindus and ghost voters in voting lists . EC did a great job in weeding out ghost voters by SIR and Amit Shah’s deployment of central police in large number gave confidence to  extremely angry hindus to come out and vote as per their conscience the results were electrifying .

Another major contributor in her downfall was her casual dismissal of rape and murder of young Doctor in 2024 in R.G.Kar hospital . Before that in case of gang rape of Suzette Jordan by four muslim men , including boyfriend of Nusrat Jahan a Bengali TV Actress ( one hindu boy was also involved ) ,   TMC activists loose comments about her character , She was mother of two children and bold enough to reveal her identity and fight the battle in courts .

To be fair Mamta was highly welfare oriented . Her welfare schemes made her quite popular in rural areas till her communal bias overcame the good will .

Economically consumed by populism , she was not at all sympathetic to industry . Around 8500 MSMEs left Bengal during her rule . Employment generation obviously suffered and sixty lakh  workers of once the Industrial capital of India, left for work in other states bringing Bengal in company of Bihar , Odisha and East UP .

During her rule, the GSDP growth rate was always below the national average although it was not worst . She did choose her finance minister well who did cover her shortcomings to a large extent .

Only BC Roy as the Chief Minister from 1950 to his death in 1962  ensured industrial and infrastructure development of Bengal . Jyoti Basu and CPM focussed largely on rural agricultural reform and destroyed Industry by Naxal / labour violence . Mamta was a hardcore populist and economic development was her second priority .

West Bengal needs a B C Roy now . But he has to have  political dexterity to take the whole population together to ensure peace and long term development under BJP rule . If like Smt Gandhi , BJP imposes a servile nincompoop as CM, to satisfy  vanity of Central leaders , it will be a suicide . From Netaji to Mamta , Bengalis like rebels by nature and will not tolerate servile leader . Ajoy Mukherjee as CM went on hunger strike  against his own government as Dy CM Jyoti Basu , did not listen to him and therefore Basu became the longest serving CM for 33 years . Bengal does not need an Ajoy Mukherji now as CM .

So West Bengal must be given a new life and its economic growth long neglected by populist governments but recognising the need for  a long term governance in mind .
