Should NCW Be Immediately Wound Up And Replaced By Family Protection And Welfare Commission

National Commission For Women was set up in 1992 with late Jayanti Patnaik, wife of Orissa CM J.B.Patnaik , as its first chairman . She was essentially a politician who later became an MP . Another Chairman was Vibha Parthasarathy , educated in Boston and Cambridge University later became principal of Sardar Patel Vidyalay. Another Chairman was Smt Girija Vyas a politician who also later became a union minister . Another Chairman was Mamta Sharma , a politician from Rajasthan .
As can be seen that most of the Chairpersons were politicians and some with foreign education .
National emotions were very surcharged in 1990 when NCW terms were being finalised . The two most important social problems were female foeticide and bride burning . In 1990 Female to male ratio in India was 927 females to 100 males . But in states like Haryana it was as low as 865 to 1000 males. Therefore the NGOs and such bodies were very vocal on this issue and female foeticide was held as the primary cause of this skewed ratio. In 1994 sex determination test was banned by law in India . In 1986 Dowry death provisions were added in Indian penal code .
Another issue that had shaken the nation emotionally was Gita Chopra and Sanjay abduction case of 1978 who were children of a navy captain . Billa Ranga , accused were hanged in 1982 . Later a TV serial was also made on them .
The most important point was that NCW was formed in this surcharged atmosphere and the politician chairpersons, who are always sensitive to media publicity and public opinion , made NCW into a virtual women’s trade union which is only focussed on women’s rights as wife in the family not her duties and worse still not her old age . It went beyond that to acquire an extreme ‘Anti men’ bias in which women including transgenders were always right .
This, over the year has now become a irreparable trait of NCW and no chair person will like to be seen to be weak by admonishing women at fault or supporting men when they were right.
The worst example of this was the case of adultery being a criminal offence for both men and women . Girija Vyas , Chairperson stood firm with all lame excuses why women indulging in adultery were not to be punished as they were victims ! Nation was aghast . Even normal women in family were against adultery by women but not NCW !
Another case was of public reaction to girls going alone to bars to drink. Normal family women were against it . But NCW , being only right conscious, saw it as denying equal opportunity to girls to drink ! Ultimately NCW chairperson , Nirmala Venkatesh, who visited Karnatak to defend girls right to go to bar to drink, had to be removed from her post by the government . But no lesson was learnt by hardened Woke movement supporters . In fact they even accused NCW of not openly defending Lesbians !
When sane politicians like Sheila Dixit advised girls and women not to dress provocatively in public it was seen as victim shaming/ blaming and violation of principle of equality and personal liberty.
Another very bad case was of an interview by Hardik Pandya in Koffee with Karan Johar IN 2019 . Hardik was too frank and even said that he told his mother when he lost his virginity. Also discussed girls loosely and distastefully. Cricket Control Board took it up and he was temporarily suspended. Rekha Sharma . NCW Chairman condemned it as disrespectful of women . Fair enough , it offended sensibility of all Indians , men and women inclusive .
But NCW which often objected to vulgar songs , did nothing when an established porn actress and producer of explicit porn films, Sunny Leone ( Karenjit Kaur original name ) was launched in Bollywood . A explicit foreign born , porn actress and porn film producer being asked to do ramp walk , inaugurate stores, do bollywood films in India and finally amass hundred twenty crore rupee wealth , did not offend NCW but hundred times less offensive statements of Hardik were punished . NCW has a record of not objecting to porn actresses, be it Gehna Vashisht , Sherlyn Chopra or Sunny Leone but a statement about a boy expecting some return for feeding a girl with Rs 370 chicken biryani deeply offends NCW !
NCW type bodies have not only out lived their purpose but are harming Indian / hindu society by popularising Wokism , destroying traditional family system by acts like demanding non criminalisation of adultery for women . Not defending old parents of husband ( including mother ) being jailed on false dahej charges etc.
Government and society’s persistent actions have increased the sex ratio in India to 106 males to 100 females in 2025 against 927 females to hundred males in 1992 . But in absence of social support , dowry deaths have not reduced . Foreign inspired bodies headed by publicity seeking politicians cannot serve any social purpose . Dayanand Saraswati alone was able to do far more for hindu widows and prevention of child marriage than an army of NCW’s political heads .
It is time NCW is immediately disbanded and a new commission to salvage the traditional Indian family system and family welfare is formed to undo the damage done by ultra feminists / woke supporters to hindu society . Also in last thirty years many new and difficult social problems have surfaced like decreasing child birth rate , increased divorce rate etc . have emerged needing solutions. It should not be an only women commission but have truly effective , deeply socially respected, fully representative , non political members .
