Choosing Your Perfect Eye Makeup

They say the eyes are the windows to the soul. Through them, one can see regrets, joys, and even personality. Eye makeup, when correctly applied, can bring life and vibrancy to any pair of baby blues or glittering greens, and anything in between. There are two steps to following order to choose your ideal eye makeup.

Step 1: What’s Your Eye Color?

Eye color is one of the most important factors in choosing eye makeup. Gray, brown and black are colors that anyone can wear, but certain colors reflect the best attributes of different eye colors, and therefore bring out the best in them.

For beautiful brown eyes, gold is your friend. Try using it as an accent color for eyeshadow shades like green, which contrast nicely with your darker eyes. With brown eyes come fantastic gold specks, which the use of gold emphasizes.

Gorgeous greenies should experiment with smoky colors, like brown and purple. It sounds odd for green eyes, but lavender complements green like coffee and cream. When selecting a brown color, think just that; mocha. Don’t go too dark or the brown will subtract from your naturally beautiful eyes.

Classic blue eyes have a statement in the eyes themselves. Since blue eyes are often brighter than other colors, choose brown and light pink shades, they’ll compliment your noticeably bright eyes. Plus, the darker brown and light rose color contrast each other, creating beautiful highlights.

Many colors can be matched with hazel eyes. However, the green in your eyes is being hidden by a little brown or gray, so you will need two things in your makeup bag: forest green and pale yellow. The olive brings out the green already in your eyes, and the yellow softens the brown and gray, making your eyes seem lighter.

Step 2: What’s the Occasion?

From daytime to evening, from work to leisure, everyone has their favorite style of makeup. The trick is using your makeup appropriately, that is, to make the right impression.

For daytime, hang-at-home makeup, the answer is simple: mascara and eyeliner. This is especially nice if you have only a little time to yourself, or just don’t care for eyeshadow at home. Mascara shows off how beautiful and long your lashes are, and the eyeliner defines the eye’s edges. If you wear eyeshadow at home, try a simple sweep over the lid in your favorite muted color; it brings some more color to your eyes without looking overdone. Then, add gold dust in the corners of your eyes for added effect.

At work, most employers have adopted a makeup policy. For most of these workplaces, it is recommended that you keep you makeup professional. This means nothing crazy, and leave off the sparkles and fake lashes. Use mascara and a tiny bit of eyeliner to show that your eyes are open at the office. For a little extra fun, sweep a muted color, like charcoal or chocolate, over your lids. Then, smudge a little beige or faint brown in the crease of your eye. Top it off by dotting the same color near the tear ducts on the inner corner of your eye.

In the evening, your makeup thoroughly depends on the night’s destination. Even then, heavy sparkles and wild color may or may not be the right choice. Keep in mind that evening light changes the look of your face, making you look a bit pinker. The same goes for your makeup. Do try for darker tones of your best color; they will show up better in dim light. Gold dust is still your friend in small amounts dotted in the corners and dabbed in the creases of your eyes. You can be bold, without being overstated.
