Understanding The British Circus : Why Rishi Sunak May Pull British Economy Out Of The Woods

I had predicted that Boris will defeat Rishi Sunak in PMs race based on his undiminished popularity in conservative grass root voters / delegates. But  I had not factored Boris withdrawal from race .
Penny was never a serious candidate . I was in UK then and she was second in votes after Sunak . But Boris preferred Liz . He himself was personally supporting Liz economic plan based on survival due to cost of living protests and Sunak was totally in disagreement . Penny Mordaunt had been a TV anchor once and looked impressive and prettier on TV till she opened her mouth . In economics she was a total novice . She instead talked of irrelevant lesbian women or gay rights which I hate.
Liz Truss had hired some good economist who gave good jargon to sell her pipe dream to public . Sunak wavered in one debate but soon recomposed and took principled stand on high avoiding borrowing to subsidise the high fuel cost but instead wanted to support only the poor.
Liz tenure was a disaster for UK economy.
Collapse of Pound and doubling of mortgage rates in 45 days made Britishers realise that Sunak was right about no free lunch . But Boris retained his support base in delegates as they were willing to forgive his minor wrong doing. They trusted his ability to bring UK back on rail as he did on Brexit .
But MPs were unrelenting including past PMs who wanted morality to still count in politics  What possibly clinched the issue was the privilege motion pending against Boris . If indicted , UK would again choose another PM and conservatives would have badly lost to labour . Tory MPs were not in Boris’ favour on this issue. So he chose to withdraw . Penny never had a chance in the changed circumstances .
Sunak is not a typical politician which is stregth as well as weakness . Like India’s Dr Man Mohan Singh as FM or Margret Thatcher in UK ,  he will only follow sound economic principles and nation trusts him at present . Therefore he may succeed unless there is a serious escalation in war in Ukraine or China attacks Taiwan .Recession is another threat looming on horizon but it is not unsurmountable . British economy is facing danger of Brexit and loss of EU market . It may have to depend on China and India if EU lays very stiff conditions . But due to Ukraine war EU will not precipitate another crisis although bureaucratic leaders of EU are hamheaded and are still pursuing their utopian ideas .
Like most of us in India, I want Sunak to succeed . But  he will be UK’s PM and like Dr Kissienger and Jews , may disappoint us in the end . . But even then , if he succeeds , world will trust Indians more and that will be good for us .
